All of you are off the mark, even if it is a charger problem. There is no small upper battery icon. The icon is 2 inches wide and in the middle of the screen, having a large exclamation point inside of it. My my Kindle Paperwhite had the same issue and has apparently recovered after a few minutes of charging, even though the light remains orange.
